Exceptional”
Great place, ran by a very nice family. Located just outside town, the ryokan was 2minutes from Hida folk village and very near mountain paths, and a bit distanced from the (very) touristic center of Takayama, which was a bonus for us as allowing for more relaxation. Direct bus (about 5 minutes) to the station as well, so we did not feel secluded. Walking is also a possibility, and taxi costs 6euros from station. We stayed in a very clean and comfortable room with a beautiful view of the mountains. The onsen (warm bath) was very clean and relaxing, with a beautiful outdoor bathtub in addition to the inside one. Very good Japanese breakfast as well. Highly recommended, and great price value.

Exceptional”
We had lovely time in this family ryokan. Very clean and peaceful. Situated on a hill among small rice fields which gives you that country feeling without leaving the city. I would recommend the breakfast, it was a really fun and interesting experience. As a foreign woman I'm a bit sceptic about public bathing, but it wasn't very busy and I managed to enjoy it on my own - there is also an outdoor bathtub!! Definitely try it! The only downside of it is that is far from the city centre - but I guess you can't have the fresh air and fields next to the station... However there is a shuttle bus and we were kindly given a lift to the station on our last day that saved our backs as we had really heavy backpacks. Thank you for taking care of us and being super kind and friendly family Hachibei! Regards from London!

Clean and comfy”
It is not walking distance from takayama town but since we are driving, we are good with the location. Its ryokan style rooms and are very comfy. Japanese Breakfast was good too but eating about same dish for straight 2 days. The only thing which we didnt like it's that no private toilet in each room. It's kinda inconvenient esp midnight.

Value for Money”
This place has good onsen. Very quiet. Room is considerably spacious for a Japanese room. Has tasty snack and green tea daily. Location is 25 - 30 minutes walk from Central Takayama. Overall good experience.

Good value, but quite far from the main town”
A very well priced hotel and the breakfast was very good. However it was much farther than I expected from the main part of Takayama (and is a bit uphill). As a result we ended up spending more than we expected on taxi rides (about 1100 yen each way). Would still recommend it for the budget conscious traveler, but next time I would probably pay a bit more for something closer to the main town.

Very good”
It’s located quite far from city, there’s no private bathroom so it’s not suitable for peoplo who cannot take a bath with other people. There is no elevator i went with older people so it was difficult and I felt very tired to carry all belongings to the room at the second floor . By the way the hotel is very clean and neat, the Japanese style breakfast was excellent.

Trip”
We reached late annd street was dark and had to rely on gps to reach there. Without a gps it is almost is almost impossible to find. Room was clean. The is no lift and had to climb one level up. No amenities nearby so had to drive out to eat as in house restaurant closes at 8pm and dinner had to be pre ordered. There is washing machine and dryer to do laundry. Shower facility closes at 11pm but the lights are switched off if no one are using. I guess the price is reasonable and this make up for the inconvenient location..

value for money during peak season”
Our stay was during Shirakawa Winter Light Up event, the price is consider very good with good breakfast included and if you don't mind sharing toilet and bathroom. However, the room is very small for 3 persons, there was no space for luggage.

Best exp”
The place gives a homely feel and... Its really good. There is onsen. Only cons is the location and the bath rooms are on lower grounds with no elevator to lift your luggage.

Bathrooms down the hall and noisy hallways”
Bathrooms are down the hallway, there is no heat in the hallway areas, anyone walking down the hallway is easily heard and staff is mostly not present. The onsen was njce, but could have been warmer. It was ok the first few nights, because we were the only guests. But then the last nights there were other guests. So i was wooken up in the middle of the night a few times by others walking down the hallways. I would not stay here again for the money.
