Super nice owners and very good location! Best ryokan I’ve ever visited!!”
This ryokan is one ofbthe best ryokan I’ve ever been in Japan. Location is great (15-20min walk from Takayama station, Folk village, and old town), owners (old lady and her son maybe?) were super duper nice people. They even offered us a ride to Takayama station when we checked out. When I first went inside of room, it smelled like cigarette. However, when I told old lady, she took care of it for us. Coin laundry is 5min walking distance, as well as Starbucks, Seven eleven, and many other good restaurants (orange colored name sign sushi place is better quality than blue one). Onsen water was amazingly good and hot. I had cold during this trip, but onsen made me feel so much better. If you are visiting Takayama, I highly recommend this place. ありがとうございます, おばあさん!

We love this place!”
We stay during winter and we're thankful for the free shuttle from and to Takayama Station (the location itself not far from the station) so we don't have to drag our big luggages on snowy road (it's very difficult!). This is our first ryokan experience and it was amazing! The futon was very comfortable, the heater works very well and there's fresh Yukata & towel everyday. At first i was worried about the sharing bathroom, but actually you can lock the door so you don't have to experience awkward situation :) The public bath was very relaxing to end your tiring day. The hosts only speak limited english but you don't have to worry, they can properly use iPad to translate the conversation. One thing to improved, the toilet is quite chilly due to some cold wind from the window. But we would love to come back!

Lovely Kapanese inn, owner absolute legend”
Loved our stay in this lovely Japanese inn. It is very basic but the owners made sure that you are happy and comfortable. I thought attention to detail to create comfort in the room was fantastic: Japanese robes, toothbrush, very comfy futon. Room had aircon and facilities for Japanese tea. Owner also gave us bikes to use which was a perfect way to explore the beautiful Takayama. Unfortunately they did not have an option for private bath. We knew that when we booked so it was fine (although not something as a Westerner we particularly enjoy). That said bathing facilities were clean and in a good condition

Comfortable and friendly”
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was a good size with futon style beds (which the guest house staff will make up for you in the afternoon). Male and female baths are both onsen style. Is close to a supermarket and about a 10minute walk from Takayama JR station. It's on the opposite side of town to where most of the action is, however we found this to be a pro as the area was far quieter as it is away from the hustle and bustle of town. If you're used to staying in hotels then this place probably isn't for you. For the easy going traveler who spends most of the day out sight seeing and can handle a shower possibly along side a few members of the same sex, then this place is good value. Was initially hard to find, however we have added directions for English speaking travellers in the "Travel tip" section.

Everything is good except communication problem”
The owner wasn't ready for our arrival, only speak Japanese and we had serious communication breakdown so we had to use google translate for everything. But they are very friendly. I booked two 3-ppl room but was given a 2-ppl room and 4-ppl room. Onsen(hot bath) is clean, breakfast (traditional Japanese food) was awesome. It is about 10 min walk from Takayama Station. There is a 24-hour Mcd nearby and a big supermarket and cosmetic store. Owner let us use the bike for free.

Great base to visit Takayama, comfortable and friendly”
Lovely hosts, very hospitable. Great traditional room. The hotel onsen was definitely a plus for us. Ryokan provided for necessities such as toothbrushes, razors, soap etc. and tea in our room. We did not get the opportunity to try the restaurant but heard from other guests it was really good. Thank you for a great stay!

Very nice Japanese style hotel”
We stayed here for two nights (and after hiking another night). The location is good, about 5min walk to the train station. On the other side of the train station the touristy area begins. The owners are very forthcoming and friendly. They don’t speak a lot of English, but communication is very easy and they are accustomed to communicate with foreigners (e.g. by using their tablet for translation services). The rooms are typical japanese style with tatami mats, futons and a big blanket. The rooms are big enough. You get new towels and Yukata (bath robes) every day. So more than we normally had. Bath is shared and open in the evening and in the morning. The only downside was the internet. It is free but the do-spot.net service was stopped every 15min and you had to enter your email again to reenable it. Somewhat annoying but speed is good. Definitely would recommend this place!

Very comfortable and perfect meals ”
I booked one night with dinner and breakfast. The dinner is wonderful and amazingly delicious! I highly recommend the room with dinner, save both money and time! It also came with Hida Beef!!! The location is not good but the host is willing to pick you up and send you back to the station if available. No elevator. The host can only speak slightly English but it’s enough to stay for a night or two. Also, it has a small hot spring pool which can be used for two to three people in the same time. No washroom or bathroom in any room.

A warm house”
A great place to experience Japan traditional house. The host is very kind although they speak only Japanese. They prepared the heater before we arrived so always feel warm in the house. They took us to the station in the morning with their car. They have modern & traditional toilets. The bath room (ofuro) is great & warm. They provide kimono & haori for each of us so we can feel how is it to be Japanese. They also provide slippers to be worn in the house. & when they see that We are with a 2 year old kid, they also have a small cute yellow slippers for my son. Everything is perfect. We wish we could stay longer there.

Awesome ryokan”
Pros: big room because we book for 4 people room but we are only 3 people. Clean, kind staff. They drop us to the station and drop us to the city on our first day. Everything is clean. Cons: they are unable to speak english but they are very friendly and try to help us with our inquiries. The location is around 15 mins walk to the city and 10 mins walk to station. Overal it is pleasant experience.

Great place close to town”
This is a traditional Japanese house with very friendly owners. My wife and I borrowed the bicycles provided and were able to go all over town and see everything. The rooms were clean and quiet and really give a sense of traditional Japanese living - tatami mat floors and traditional futons to sleep on. The bath is a basic ofuro (hot bath) large enough for about 2 people (the indoor bath). Arigatou gozaimasu! Highly recommended!

Great traditional Japanese hotel”
Hotel is located in short walking distance from train and bus stations in quiet neighbourhood, have very nice and clean traditional Japanese style rooms, communal areas are very well kept and clean and although staff does not speak English, they are trying to do their best to take care of guests and have written information in English. Very good value for money.

Excellent location, close to bus/JR train station - walking distance from the opposite side of the bus n train station. Lovely doting hostess in a huge house built by the owner. Carved doors and stainless steel sink for common use in whole upstairs with 7 lovely spacious tatami home. Recommended for Families or small groups. Very clean. Bedding, yukatas, towels, tea, fresh everyday. Ohuro prepared everyday. We were driven back to bus station with our luggage that somehow expanded. Restaurants in town 10 min easy walk away. 7/11 n large convenience n grocery store 5 min walk away between train/bus station n the house. Well marked off the Main Street. Definitely will return here again. Highly recommended all round: cleanliness, location, convenience to bus n train n restaurants n shops, and lovely host family!!!

Fantastic!”
Very big rooms, super location a short ride from the main part of town (they have bikes!), and the owners are lovely. Go for the dinner- our BEST meal in Japan. A million tiny perfect dishes that were so yummy and left us full to the brim

Nice owners, old style ryokan”
This family-run, slightly aged ryokan in a quiet neighborhood had all the aspects you could wish for: helpful owners, big bath, good rooms, great food, beautiful garden, and on the ground floor an interesting collection of stuff.

Great hospitality ”
A traditional Japanese house with traditional Japanese room and a hot bath downstairs which was very welcome coming in from the freezing weather outside. Japanese robes are provided. The wonderful old lady who runs this place speaks no English but she gets by with an iPad translator and she makes you feel very welcome.
