place to spend the night”
We stayed here as there were no more available rooms in Takayama due to the festival. It is a decent place to spend the night. Note that they only have shared baths and toilets (only one sitting toilet in the Females. Others were squat). But as it is a small place we didn't experience a rush for utilities in the morning. The shared indoor shower/bath area is quite old and unappealing. but you still need to use it to rinse off before using the outdoor bath or cypress bath, which are the highlights for the hotel. The room is old as how these places are, but well kept and clean. Ok for the price. It included full board which was very generous, however we skipped dinner and only had bfast. we only used it as a spring board to visit Takayama, so really cannot say much abt location etc.

A delightful place to stay ”
We had a very enjoyable stay at Houzansou Bekkan. The hotel is well located, remote enough to be relaxing but still easily accessed from Takayama by bus. The hotel is run by very friendly and helpful people, the rooms are generously sized and the facilities are kept very clean by the attentive staff. Rotenburo options included both timber and stone hot-tubs and were well positioned with views over the river and towards the adjacent mountain. Meals were a real highlight, comprising multiple courses including local produce, fresh fish and hida beef. Whilst not fancy or modern, Houzansou Bekkan is a charming place to spend time in the mountains. We stayed three nights and would have loved to stay longer if we had the time!
