Private Bath for family and couples!”
There is both public bath and private bath. My family loved its’ open air private bath. Simply, through booking system on the front desk, you can use it for half an hour for free. The food were extremely nice and perfect for instagram. Hida beef bbq is the best of all. Also, the ryokan offers free coffee and milk all day. Additionally, the amenities offers enough that I don’t need anything from hair and body wash products to snow boots and snow cleaning tools for car.

Exceptional”
Sufficient and nice Onsen facilities. Enjoyed so much for both indoor and outdoor public Onsen pools. Provide free Yakult in the morning, a very tasty local milk in the evening and Ramen for late supper. A lot of private Onsen rooms for booking. Staff are very friendly, just most don’t know English. Difficult to communicate. But they mitigate it by using a translator machine.

Great First Experience at a Ryokan!”
The ryokan was what I had expected and more. The staff were very considerate and there to assist and answer any of my questions. I highly recommend getting a personal onsen in your room because it's worth it. The location was also a plus because it's only a quick 5-10min walk to the bus station for Kamikochi and other neighboring sites.

Amazing Ryokan but management needs flexibilty and some staff needs to be more polite”
This place is a gem don't get me wrong. They have the most beautiful private and public onsen. The best Hida beef dinner buffet, breakfast set & free ramen. To be honest I was the one who was wrong as I clicked 1 traveler in my itinerary as I was trying to book this property right away and (Agoda should put the setting to 2 travelers instead of 1 for confusion sake). I have been a VIP Agoda user for almost 10 years and first time it happend to me. Anyways, when I got there and realized my mistake, the property charged me almost the same price of 1 traveler. When I checked way back the price was just 3k php. But I was charged almost 8k php when I got there. To make it worse the room we got was the smallest and after charging a 2nd person we were not offered a free dinner for the 2nd person so we had to order ala carte. There should be some flexibility and reasonableness with this kind of situation. I guess it was fully booked and high season. Anyways still recommend this place.

Very good”
The private and public onsen are both wonderful. However, the food was way below expectation for both dinner and breakfast, although the ambience is good. The place is rather big and more catered to large tour groups. Nonetheless it was a good experience but I won't return.

Underwhelming but ok”
Good location. However, if you pay more because you want to have kaiseki dinner, then this place is underwhelming. You can see that the staff is overworked (poor management, I guess). I personally prefer smaller ryokans.

super nice hot spring resorts!”
It was a fantastic experience to enjoy the outdoor hot spring with snow view. miyama ouan is super nice hotel with the BEST hot spring experience I had in Japan, even better than hakong and Hokkaido. The food in hotel is very delicious, and they provided free local milk and Raman for customers in different hours. The best is the outdoor hot spring and private hot spring. Love this place and I definitely will come back! Ps. I recommend to stay at least 2days as the transfer from Takayama city to hotel is not very convenient.

Fantastic Japanese experience in the mountains”
When we first arrived in Takayama we were surprised to find that the hotel was an hour bus ride away. However, it turned out to be one of our best experiences in Japan. The hotel was situated inside the snow fields. Whilst the temperature in Takayama was 33% the hotel area was only 19%. This meant we could enjoy the hot mineral baths especially the outdoor ones. The staff were fantastic and I would fully recommend having dinner at the hotel. We were served eight course meals which were amazing. We stayed two nights and the meals differed each night. We stayed in the Japanese Western rooms which were very spacious with lounge and separate bedroom and large bathroom with tub bath. We took a day trip to Takayama which is a really nice place but we were glad to get back to the hotel to enjoy this place.

Nice ryokan with good services and nice onsen”
We stayed for 4 nights and were very happy with our stay. The ryokan is very clean and well kept. The breakfast was plentiful (Japanese style). The ryokan arranges free shuttle rides to Kamikochi but they don't start very early in the morning and might be already booked if not booked in advance. But the public bus station is just a 5 min walk away and there are buses to Kamikochi every half an hour or so. In Kamikochi if you are looking for a hike in adddition to walking the main routes along the Azusa river, try the hike to Dakesawa hut. It can be well done in one day, it took us 2,5 hours to climb up (our children are 12 and 14 years). With small children the hike might be a bit too challenging (vertical rise about 650 m). The main onsen at the Miyami Ouan ryokan was really nice, with own sides for women and men. There are also private onsens that you can reserve. The ryokan also provides free Huda milk (delicious) and free ramen at 10 pm every night (also delicious).

Good traditional stay ”
The staff spoke different levels of English but were always incredibly polite and helpful. They were accommodating to my special dietary request (vegetarian), just be sure to let them know as soon as you get to the hotel. It helps if you can communicate in very basic (even if it’s broken) Japanese. The private onsen and in-room bath were a delight. Great relaxing stay. Wouldn’t recommend if you want to explore the Takayama area as it’s a 60 min bus trip from the main town. However it was only half an hour from the Shinhotaka Ropway which can’t be missed.

the 1 hour bus trip from Takayama to Hirayu where the resort hotel with private & public hot springs was definately worth it - Japenese -breakfast was a great experience but if you wanted dinner this was A$80 per person - there were other cheap restaurants in the area - excellent service and beautiful location for winter - very relaxing and kimino & other Japanese dress supplied free - a great experience and location
