Best bang for your buck! ”
This was one of our fav accommodation. The room was spacious and hospitality was top notch. The breakfast in the morning was just like any ryokan. I really enjoyed the free yukata service. Location was convenient and walkable distance to the old town.

Great experience on the ryokan and onsen

Very good”
Took my mom on a holiday. We stayed for 2 nights. As she gets tired easily, it helps that the ryokan is located near the train station. The staff was polite and helpful. Service was great overall. The breakfast is a must-try and we were delighted at the variety and meals were different on both days.

Traditional ryokan, with modern features”
Staying at Oyado Koto No Yume was one of the great highlights of our trip to Takayama, and more broadly our holiday in Japan. From the moment we entered the ryokan we were made to feel very welcome and the friendly, attentive staff made us feel like no detail would be overlooked. Our two night stay was an absolute treat. The hotel is close to the train station, and it's a short walk from there to restaurants, shopping, cafes, the morning markets, and Old Town. Our room was spacious and relaxing, and in fact the entire hotel seemed to encourage a wonderful feeling of peace and calm. The breakfast each morning was a fantastic way to start the day (we opted for the Western style), and provided a good mix of sweet & savoury, hot & cold options. The staff were wonderful, and always willing to help - whether it was grabbing my running shoes for an early morning jog or arranging an in-room massage. Be sure to take advantage of the private onsen ... it was such a nice way to end a busy day of sight-seeing. We very much look forward to returning to Takayama and in particular, Oyado Koto No Yume ... our stay there was magical and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other travellers in the area (especially those interested in modern Japanese style accommodation).

Great Ryokan with amazing service”
We had a lovely 1 night stay only at Oyado koto No yume Ryokan. This is a traditional but modern ryokan. Upon arrival, you will remove your shoes, welcomed by the staff and offered tea and japanese sweets. Then you can choose your Yukata (Summer Kimono) in the color you want and you will be escorted to your room. We very much enjoyed our stay. We had the private bath room rented and it was very nice and relaxing (you will be given a pack of CDs to choose the music). We unfortunately did not go to the onsen as we did not want to strip down naked with other guests but I would recommend for a real japanese experience otherwise. The breakfast (Western) was really nice and served in the beautiful japanese dining room. we were a bit worried about sleeping on the mats, but it was surprisingly comfortable. I would suggest maybe staying in a few other hostels / hotels beforehand to get used to the slim matresses in Japan. I would recommend Oyado Koto No Yume to Takayama visitors. this was a great relaxing stay. The goodle map of the hotel is not very clear. find the Best Western hotel (from train station go straight trhough on the pedestrian road, then turn left) and then continue along the same road. oyado's entrance is behind little hanging curtains

Great traditional Japanese ryokan”
Just what we were after - traditional Japanese ryokan style hotel, but with mod cons and conveniences. 3 mins from the JR station, very convenient to get to the sights of Takayama. We opted for the traditional room which was spacious and spotless, with one of those Japanese high-tech toilets, separate bathroom (although we used the public 'onsen' type baths), tatami mats, futons (layed out while we had dinner) coffee/tea making facilities, modern TV and aircon. Dinner was traditional 'keiseki' style which was lovely and breakfast was traditional Japanese rice and pickles (which is not to everyone's taste, but we loved it). Staff were great, really helpful and English was very good. Best thing was that men/women could choose their own 'yukatta' to wear at dinner, which added to the traditional japanese feel of the whole stay. It was all in all an extremely comfortable and enjoyable stay and we'd definitely stay at Oyado Koto No Yume Hotel again.

Welcoming staff, lots of extra touches”
Our family loved our stay at the Oyado Koto No Yume Hotel. The staff were welcoming, serving us complimentary tea and sweets when we arrived in the foyer overlooking a Japanese garden. We were supplied with the usual cotton robes to wear for sleeping and to the bathrooms, but also my daughter and I were given more kimono-like robes for wearing to the dining room, or even out in the street. The bathing rooms were beautiful, and the flower arrangements about the foyer area also a nice touch. There was also complimentary herbal tea and essential oils available in the foyer area with western-style couches for comfortable lounging about. The lounge area also included a space with toys for young children and an array of books in Japanese and English. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the rooms were an adequate size for three people, each with a modest Western-style bathroom. Everything was very clean but unfortunately the view from the rooms was not very attractive. The hotel is close to the train station and a 10 minute walk from the old town area of Takayama. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed for longer!

Outstanding experience”
My stay at the wonderful Koto No Yume is by far the best hotel experience I have ever had. The ryokan is gorgeous in every way, immaculately clean and beautiful. Everywhere you look you can see a thoughtful touch. The staff are happy, friendly and attentive with excellent English. The level of service is the highest. Breakfasts, both Japanese and Western are a feast. You are loaned a yukata to wear throughout your stay, as well as one for bed. Takayama itself is a wonderful place, the true old Japan and getting around from Koto No Yume is so simple. I originally planned for two nights, but stayed a third. Im looking forward to taking my family back there for this fantastic experience. Thank you Koto No Yume for the highlight of my Japan trip.

Takayama is a nice place and with a very gd hotel!”
Oyado Koto No Yume Hotel is really a nice hotel in Takayama. It is very close to JR station as well as the tourists attractions. Also, most of the staff in hotel can speak English. This made our communication more efficient. Beside this, all the staff are so helpful. Whenever you have a request, they would try their best to help. For the facilities, room was clean and large. The food provided by the hotel restaurant was excellent. Moreover, the private hot spring was inexpensive while the environment was good.

Exceptional”
Koto no Yume never fails to lives up to my expectations, and in this case surpasses them. There are far more English-speaking staff now than there were 2 years ago when I last stayed there, and more additional perks which I did not expect and was pleasantly surprised by (free tea after onsen, nail polish, a free postcard set, etc). I would definitely, definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Takayama. Multiple thumbs up from me, and continue being the excellent place that you are!

Definitely coming back here!”
This place is just perfect! The location is super near to the Takayama bus station. The ryokan is very beautiful. When we checked in , they gave us a set of green tea and dessert. The staff is really nice , helpful and speaks fluent english. The room I stayed in has a private bath and a separate toilet. The staff who showed us our room , explained everything about the facility very clearly. This ryokan also offers a private onsen which can be reserved beforehand. If you have any question , just ask the staff! They are more than eager to help you out! They even asked us where we were going next , gave us the map and recommend places we should visit. It is the most fantastic ryokan experience I’ve ever had:) Definitely coming back here~ I will recommend this ryokan to all of my friends and family who are going to Takayama~

Traditional, classy and comfortable Ryokan”
My family have a perfect time here in Takayama. We enjoy the Japanese traditional Ryokan style so much. It keeps traditional classy style but also contemporary with the decorations and facilities. U-ka-ta dressing is so much fun and exciting. Services are very nice and warm welcome atmosphere. Hostess can speak English and take good care of us. Foods are amazing and the Hida beef dinner extremely impress us. The location is good, easy to find and take only 5 minutes walk from station. It's the must Ryokan to stay if you come to Takayama. I can say this is the best hotel for my Japan trip. RECOMMENDED

Nice traditional hotel in a lovely little town”
we stayed in this hotel as it is situated in the town of takayama which is the gateway to the world heritage site of shirakawa-go. the hotel is very conveniently located, just a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and another 10-15 minute walk to reach the city centre of takayama, which is a very quaint little town selling lots of traditional japanese stuff. the room we stayed in was a traditional japanese tatami room, very spacious, quiet and cozy, with comfortable futons (japanese mattresses)and equipped with modern amenities. the hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, ever eager to attend to all our needs, no matter how small or trivial they were. and there are nice little additional touches like the liabrary and in particular, the salon where guests are offered a wide selection of yukatas (together with matching colored belts) to wear within or outside the hotel premises. on the whole, my family and i had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at this hotel.

PERFECT! Good food, amazing service, beyond words”
To all travellers visiting Takayama, I'd highly recommend this Ryokan. Staffs are english capable and very helpful and friendly. Services are beyond words, I really love the little details they provide us with (the yukata, herbs teas, aromatic oils). Located just in front of the train station. Very cozy room to bunk in and the food was scrumptious. My next visit to Takayama, I'd definitely stay here again. Definitely made our first ryokan visit an unforgettable one! Huge thanks to Mr.Akira the owner

Fine traditional ryokan with modern amenities”
We, a couple with teenage son, were recommended this Takayama ryokan, sited 5 mins from railway station: it more than lived up to expectations for the 2 nights in July we stayed. Yukata as well as more formal dress was provided, and assistance given in wearing it properly, for breakfast & dinner. Public areas were spacious and had fine traditional & modern decor, serving as attractve backdrop for photos we took. In-house PC provided in a groundfloor booth and wi-fi connection in lobby (access in certain rooms too). Helpful, knowledgable staff.

Quaint inn with modern facilities. Terrific staff.”
The first thing that strikes you when you enter the inn is how thoughtfully designed and well-maintained the place is. The staff are, as with most Japanese hotels, always at hand to attend to your every need and do their very best to ensure a pleasant stay. A bonus is that most of the staff have a good command of english, which was surprising considering that Takayama is a pretty small town. The rooms have all the modern conveniences a holidaymaker might require, yet somehow manage to retain the "old-school" charm of a traditional japanese inn. We had a kaiseki (traditional multi-course) dinner one night, which proved to be one of the best meals of our trip. The food was both delectably presented and fresh and tasty. The Hida beef which they served , in my humble opinion, surpassed the Kobe beef we sampled a couple of days earlier during our stay in Kobe. In short, I'd definitely recommend this ryokan to everyone!

Authentic welcoming Japanese experience”
This is a lovely traditional ryokan with a charming accommodating staff.. They go way out of their way to create an authentic Old world Japanese experience, even providing traditional dress for guests, if you choose. Also they have a very nice, clean onsen. A short walk from the rail and bus station makes it convenient, though not in the historic district--but Takayama is a very small place and the hotel is a 10 min walk to everything. It is quite pricey, but you are buying an incredible cultural experience beyond the cost of the room. The en suite bathroom in our room was dated and could use an upgrade, but the room itself was charming and comfortable. They even had a big screen tv with cnn.

Best stay in Japan”
Location is very good, extremely near to Takayama bus terminal. The whole ryokan is nicely decorated, clean and well maintained. Service was excellent. They wiped the wheels of my luggage before bringing it in. Staff can speak very good English and detailed introduction of the room was given. Room was spacious and the heated toilet seat cover helped a lot. Love the traditional concept and sleeping on futon is comfortable. It was extremely peaceful when inside the room. We could not hear any noise at all. Food-wise, both the breakfast and dinner were excellent and sumptuous. Good quality and tasty. I love the hida apple juice too although it comes in a smaller portion. This is really our best stay in Japan so far even though it was short. Highly recommended!
