Only stayed a night but it was great!”
We had a great night at Ryosou. Good value for money as one of the cheaper options in Hirayu Onsen. The owners were friendly though spoke no English. The place was empty except for another couple, so we had free rein of the outside rotemburo and indoor onsens. The house reminds me of a ski lodge and had nice communal facilities. ~2 minute walk from the bus station.

Cute little ryokan ”
Overall I had a good stay at this ryokan. The traditional breakfast was really good, and if you want to try it you need to make sure you reserve it with your stay. It’s served at 7:30am everyday in the dining room downstairs. The onsens are wonderful and I tried all three of them while I was there. They are open 24 hours, but they might be closed for cleaning between 8:30 - 11 am. The owners do not speak English at all so be prepared for that; I think they appreciate you trying to communicate in Japanese and to be friendly and thankful to them. The woman came off very grumpy at first, but by the end of my stay we got along really well. Both the woman and man sat down to talk with me a couple times while I was taking my shoes on/off, and although we had to translate a LOT, it was really cute and nice that they took the time to do that... I messed up an had to make two separate reservations and because of that I stayed in both the Yamayuri and the Kobushi rooms. I would not recommend the Yamayuri room because the window is out over the ryokan entrance and guests/others are quite loud. The ryokan is not well insulated so I was able to hear everything going on at the inn. Bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. They give you a very thin mattress pad, a sheet, and a rice pillow... it was very hard for me to sleep comfortably. It’s standard across ryokans, so I had to try it, but I definitely needed extra padding and my backpacking pillow. The bus station is close by and I was able to do day trips to Komakochi and Shinhotaka. Overall great location!

Was so nice, very very cozy. Just be sure to bring food if you didnt opt for food.”
The onsen here are all private small room onsens. So if the hotel is booked full, it might be a competition to get a good onsen spot. But all in all for the price and experience(really traditional super cozy Japanese onsen) its way awesome :)

Like staying in a Japanese home. ”
This is not just a hotel/ryokan. It is the home of the owner/host. Thus, the experience was like living in a Japanese home. Having said that, we only saw the host after we had checked into the room. It was pretty much self service. The host gave us a welcome gift that he made. It was a nice gesture. The room was comfortable and cosy. There were 3 common bath rooms. One was an open air onsen. Nice to dip in during cool weather. However, there was a rusty smell to the onsen water. Not sure if that was common among the onsen at Hirayu. Never experience this in other regions. There was a coin washer (¥300) and dryer (¥100), very convenient. I particularly like the lounge because it felt very homey. We paid ¥1000 for breakfast the following day. Not bad. An interesting experience.

Exceptional”
This place is located right behind the Okuhida Onsen bus station. It takes less than 5 minutes to walk there and signs are posted on street lamps to direct you. The bathrooms are communal, and showers are located inside the three private onsens. During my stay, I had no problem finding an open one to dip into. My room was a charming, rustic Japanese room with a heated floor, so I had no issues with the <0 C weather. No one there speaks Japanese. I foolishly thought Google translate would cover that issue, but it did not.

Amazing ryokan with lovely onsen”
I love this ryokan ! It's only 3 minute walk from the bus terminal, I went in the winter and the snowy mountains surrounding this small onsen town was so beautiful. The old couple - owners of this ryokan were so warm and nice, even though they don't speak English but everything has a sign in English so there'd be no problem, they even took a picture for our family and printed us for us as gift. The whole place is squeaky clean and the onsens are amazing! Try taking the outdoor bath under the snow! They also had a massage chair downstairs, it's a pity I only got to try it once. Overall relaxing and cozy place to stay at. I hope I can return one day :)

Near Bus station, a quite big Japanese style house held by an old couple. Casual and warm place, likes to have a stay at your friend's home. Clean Japan-style room and enjoy 3 private bathrooms for hot spring, suitable for sweet couple.

Location very near Hirayu Onsen station with eateries just 2min away. However they may close early. Enjoyed the private onsens especially the outdoor onsen. However room can be slightly on the smaller side.

There is a guesthouse and a Ryokan, I payed for the guesthouse but stay on the ryokan which has private indoor and outdoor onsen, they are both very simple but very nice, specially the rotenburo at night. There were few people and it was a quiet and enjoyable stay. Also the old couple that runs the place are nice people. The only thing that would be nice is if they included a big towel along the small one provided (or just the big one).

Beautiful ryokan ”
A beautiful ryokan with private baths including outside one with the mountain view. A very friendly, helpful, hospitable staff. Wooden interior, beautiful stained glass windows, and crickets in the lobby create unique atmosphere. Nearby shop sells delicious onsen-boiled eggs. Highly recommend this Ryokan-Onsen.
