The only drawbacks are the old beds and thin walls. I had a room to myslefy, super clean, great kitchen, views from the window. The staff were friendly and explained a lot about the neighborhood and facilities. It's very close to the folk village. It's far from the station, so ideal for travelers with a vehicle.

A very pleasant stay!”

I like everything about Sakura GH at Hida Takayama very much! We got nice room with comfy bed, heater and A/C. There is a little library with multilingual books. My favorite spot is obviously the kitchen corner with the wooden stove! It is just so pleasant and heart warming to sip my coffee or hot chocolate in that corner while enjoying the mountain sunset light! Staff speaks sufficient english and is very helpful and informative about how to get around! Recommended!

Sakura guest house has a wonderful staff and relaxing atmosphere. On the day I left, they drove me to the bus station! The walk to the center is about a 20 minute walk, but I would still give it 5 stars. If you want a great takayama experience, do a walk to the road to the right as you approach and make sure to stop by anything that looks interesting. I stopped by a folk art store, and had a great conversation (with the help of Google translate) with the shop owner, who then offeredme some sliced tomato's! You will find hida folk village at the end (closes at 5) and their craft experience destination (closes at 4). Which if you like to take your time will be a whole day in itself. These offshoots away from the tourists are where the best parts of takayama lay, and Sakura guest house puts you right by them!

Cozy hostel with spacious rooms!”

spacious rooms, friendly staff, clean bathrooms, powerful showers

My husband and I had a great time at the Sakura Guest House. The manager was friendly and spoke great English. We stayed in a spacious (by Japanese standards) private room with a shared bath. The bathrooms were extremely clean and the showers were high pressure. They even provided quality shampoo and body wash for our use! The location was fine, but about a 15-20 minute walk from town. This is a great Guest House if you're looking for a budget friendly place to stay in Takayama.

Friendly owner

Sakura Guest house is located within 10 minutes-walk from the Takayama main station. It is very strategic as many places of interest just located around. It was glad that I was able to meet with many travellers around the world during my stay. The owner of this house was very kind and friendly and even treat us eat some japanese snacks during our chatting among the travellers. I felt so warm although it was in the midnight in winter time. A great place to recommend!

Great Hostel with Great Service”

We thought this place is of great value. It is very far to get to at first, and it's located up a hill, but the good thing is that it's close to Green Hotel, and they also have free shuttle to the station. The rooms and facilities were very clean, and the staff were really helpful in showing us all sorts of places when we checked in. The Takayama markets could be a bit far, but it's a part of the charm to walk there. The great thing is being located near Green Hotel. We didn't really use the shower facilities at Sakura, even though they seem clean. We had a 1000 yen onsen at Green Hotel, which is a luxury resort, and it had several restaurants with great food opened late. One restaurant even opened til 11pm. Sakura being close to Green Hotel made it feel like a Resort.

Hi everyone, for whom who looking for guesthouse for backpackers in Takayama. I'm strongly recommend here. The guesthouse is located near Hida folk village.Ask for map from Tourists information in front of the station, they know all guesthouse in Takayama :) I spent 25 minutes walked from train station. There are simple, quite, and peaceful japanese-styled guesthouse, All stuffs are clean, convenient, and new. in the photos presented are seems like they re quite old but in the fact is...great!!! the owner is very nice. He can use English not well but he gets what you want. Not many people in low season so me and my friend were alone in nice 4 double-bed room. don't worry about gender separate or not, when you get there the owner would deal with it for your comfortable. All those are cheap!!! and beyond that, The view from the guesthouse is WOW!!!!! the sad thing that me and my friend weren't stay there longer T T 2 travel girls from Thailand :)

This is a good place to stay if you come to Takayama by car. It's a little ways out from the train station and center of town--about a mile. (They had some bicycles for rent that looked nice.) The guest house has the feel of nice quality European-style hostel. Our room was simple but spacious and comfortable. Very clean. The kitchen/dining area was really nice and equipped with all you could wish for it you want to fix your own breakfaast or do some simple cooking. We felt we had plenty of privacy. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Affordable, Clean Shower Facilities & Bed Warmer, Fan Heater

As Takayama is on high land, so generally the temperature of the perfecture is much colder. So I'm glad that Sakura Guest House provided Bed Warmer & Fan Heater. Its an affordable and clean guest house. The location of the guest house is quite far from Takayama station, almost a long walk, maybe 15 or 20 mins. Also *** please take note of the Sarubobo Bus Time Table, it end the last bus service at 1705, so prepare to take a long walk back.

Great cozy place far away from city center”

Fireplace in the kitchen, spacious dorms.

Stayed in female dorm for one night. This place is like a little house in the village. Really cozy, "grandmother"-style kitchen has a freestanding stove! The dorms are nice and spacious with mini light and power outlet. Toilets are segregated, which is great. Showers are OK. For one night stay it's kjnd if far from the station and from the city centre. But! If I go back to Takayama for more than one night, I'll stay there again, no doubt. Really really nice place.

Highly recommended guesthouse away from town”

Big Room, Comfy Bed, Wonderful Surrounding

We stayed at the twin room for one of our nights in Takayama to experience quiet stay away from town and I must say this is definitely one of our memorable stays in Japan. Clean guesthouse, big room, comfy bed, clean shower rooms and toilets. Not forgetting the warm kitchen/dining area! Yes, it is quite a distance from the town, but it is also within walking distance to one of the main attractions - Hida Folk Village. You can walk to Family Mart for dinner and local bakery for fresh pastries in the morning, both within 15 mins walk. Would definitely recommend this guesthouse to everyone!
