Only 7 minutes on foot from Hankyu Omiya station. There are two supermarkets across from the hotel and a Family mart convenience store beside the hotel. The best part of this hotel is its warm and wonderfully trained staff. They quickly respond to requests and are accommodating. Highly recommended place and would definitely stay again at Smile Hotel Shijo.

Spacious room and toilet, well maintained facility, along main road, non smoking room, near bus stop, alot of privacy (unlike some other hotels with filmsy door/wall), some distance from train station. No shared microwave oven though.

Not recommend if you need a good sleep”
Although the price of this hotel is cheaper but its not worth it if you need a good sleep during your trip. The soundproofing is extremely terrible where you will be able to hear neighbouring room walking, talking and coughing sound for whole night. Need to pray no people stay beside and above you. The room is small but it’s acceptable for me since its clearly written when I book it, but the sound proofing is like non-exist. The concierge is very friendly.

Bigger room than the usual double occupancy. we visited kyoto during winter so there is no aircon? However, room temperature can be hot sometimes so we tried tonrequwst for a fan at least, however they can’t provide any and suggested to just open the window. We are on the road side so it can be noisy at times. Also, we have a two year old kiddo. We got disappointed on this. Also, room smells old especially the bathroom. Not sure if they sanitized it or what but as far as i know, if its sanitized, smell shouldn’t be funny.

We enjoyed our stay enough that we would definitely come back here! Our room was comfortable and spacious enough for two people. Hotel staff were very helpful, though not always patient. The hotel is conveniently located along Shijo, which is where a lot of bus and train stations are. Plenty of restaurants with good value for money are less than a five minute walk away. Many places are hidden gems featuring good quality locally sourced food, including a ramen place a few steps away from the hotel. There were around five groceries/convenience stores that sell fresh fruits. It is also less than a 10-minute walk from Nishiki Market, a great place to find both affordable everyday food and Kyoto-specific delicacies. Shijo is also a convenient location to stay if you were aiming to go to a lot of the temples; during our 3 days, we managed to go to at least 6 of the 17 UNESCO world heritage sites.

Wonderful Experience with Minor Flaws”
We booked Smile Hotel for four days, and had a wonderful experience at the hotel. Room is extremely clean and tidy, we got prompt service from the staff for whatever we request, and the brilliant room service has made us in a great mood everyday after we arrived in our room. The hotel is 3-minute walk to nearby bus stations. The hotel is not perfect. In addition to the stated costs, the sound-proof is not first-tier, so we heard family talking outside the room for few minutes. But generally it's quiet. In addition, the hotel is some what far from the subway, so the 10-minute walk to the subway was a bit weary. However, we only took subway once because most tourist sites in Kyoto is near to bus stations, so it's not bothering. Still, all we want is a tidy bed, a clean room, and convenient transport to tourist sites, so the stay at Smile Hotel is satisfactory, and we would recommend our friends to go to Smile Hotel.

We had a good stay in the Smile Hotel Kyoto-Shijo. In a good location and easy to get to. Better if the rooms had card keys instead of a key to hand in each time we left though. But still good none-the-less.

Hotel Oaks Shijo”
The Hotel Oaks Shijo was a very pleasant experience. It was close to easy access subways and trains. It was close to Kyoto station which gave us quick access upon arriving from Tokyo. We were able to find shopping, restaurants and tour information and links easily from this location. It was an easy 15 minute walk to Gion Corner and many other points of interest. The food choices in the hotel restaurant were good as was the food. The staff was very helpful and gracious. The room was clean and comfortable.

Clean and centrally located hotel”
I stayed here for two nights. The hotel and room were spotless, and since I was not travelling in high season, the rate I got was excellent value for money. It is centrally located a block away from Shijo which is the major intersection of downtown Kyoto. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Location”
Room is small but clean. Compare to other Japanese budget hotels this type, room size almost the same. bed was stiff but that was average for this class. Convenient stores(Familymart) is 30 steps (not 30 meters) from the hotel, extremely handy. Hotel itself resides almost center of the city facing large street and very handy going anywhere using city bus( 1 day ticket 500yen). Receptionist was extremely helpful, finding which bus to take. Setbacks were that I could hear the noise when next door guests leaning on the wall, had to close eye on this point, also water flow was not that strong may take some time to fill bathtab. Since I did not use restaurant and cafe facilities, not the position to value, but able to add morning dishes paying around 1300yen thought it was a little above average. You can find eating places easily around the hotel, or visit the shopping area, Kawaramachi 2,3 stops by bus. All in all, great value for the money.
