Quiet Hostel Near Kyoto Station”

The Lower East Nine Hostel is located next to Kujo Station on the subway network. Kyoto station is next stop but it is more worthwhile and use it to travel to Shijo Station where most central Kyoto landmarks are in the vicinity and to connect to the Hankyu rail network which provides access to Osaka Itami Airport with easier transfers. As it is near Kyoto Station, it is also a suitable base to do trips on the JR network to Osaka, Nara, Uji, Arashiyama and the Shiga region or beyond. Kyoto Station is the terminus for the bus network in Kyoto as well, thus it is also suitable for exploring Kyoto via bus. The rooms are rather comfortable. They have great coffee and drinks at a discount for guests. A reliable laundry facility. The only downside is the layout of the hostel. To get to the dorms or from the common area to the private rooms you have to go outdoors first which is problematic during rain or extreme cold weather. Otherwise, it was a comfortable stay and decent quiet base for exploring Kyoto that is away from the more busy areas around Kyoto Station and Sanjo district.

Highly recommended”

I stayed at the lower east nine hostel during November. The hostel is easy to find and conveniently located next to the kujo subway station, (1 stop away from Kyoto station. )Take the lift to ground floor at exit 4 if you have luggage. The staff were always helpful and available during our stay. Checkin was easy. I stayed in the private room which included breakfast and a warm drink in the morning. The coffee is superb and the avocado toast with eggs was delicious. there is a coin laundry room on the ground floor and they will store your bags after check out until reception closes.

Great place, great people!”

Had a great time at Lower East Nine Hostel. First, it’s really easy to find and very close to Kyoto station. The staff were very nice and spoke great English as well as other languages. The facilities were really clean, the beds comfy. My only complaint may be the limited breakfast choice; bread to make toast and boiled eggs. But hey, the breakfast was free! So I’m not complaining that much. Great place if you’re staying in Kyoto for any length of time, and good for group travellers too!

Chic new hostel - love it”

location, price, style & decoration

I love trying new hostel and came across this hostel which was just newly open & I really love it. Hostel itself looks nicer than the photos. the location is good, right above Kujo subway station (take exit 3 & hotel is on your right hand side with 10 steps walk!). The staffs are nice and speak good English, very helpful indeed. I arrive early and I can deposit my luggage before and after my stay. The dorm room is clean and has everything you need for overnight stay (towel is provided too). bathroom is also clean & common room is big enough. The café at lobby is very nice and cozy. the only 1 improvement would be the wifi which was a bit unstable. I will probably stay at this hostel again for my next visit to Kyoto :)

A wonderful stay for a bargain. ”

I stayed here for 4 days when I was traveling to Kyoto. It is very close to the subway (right around the corner) and there is a bus station that picks up and can take you to the shines/gion etc. There's a 7-11 down the street. Everyone is friendly and speaks English. The hostel is also a cafe that you can enjoy food and various drinks throughout the day. They offer all the facilities you need, a common room, breakfast in the morning (egg and bread) and you can request towels if you need to. The rooms are cozy and there are bathrooms and showers on the second floor (that's where I stayed). The common room is very lively, I made some wonderful friends staying here. The showers come with body wash and shampoo. Noise was above average for a hostel. They will hold your luggage past checkout if you want to explore the city more. Thanks for the stay LE9! Pros: Good price, facilities are modern, staff are very kind, close to transportation and convenience stores. Cons: No conditioner

One of the best new dormitories in Kyoto”

Friendliness, Comfort, Location

A fantastic experience! LE9 has a beautiful living room/dining/kitchen area on the 2nd floor where you can sit and make plans for the next day. It is also conveniently located at Kujo subway station, 1 stop down from Kyoto station. In fact, if you wanted to you could exit south from Kyoto station and walk downwards to Kujo; LE9 is hard to miss. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Kyoto station to Kujo. The beds were comfortable and spacious enough for you to put most things, and the staff converse quite fluently in English and should be able to help you with most queries. If you don't have a travel pass, then travelling from Kujo to the Gion district might be slighty inconvenient. If you're a solo traveler like me, I would suggest lodging somewhere closer to Gion-shijo, where you can explore the other side of the river (Philosopher's path, Ginkaku, Kiyomizu-dera, Yasaka Shrine etc) and then move over to LE9, where you can explore the Kyoto station, Tower and the Saga-Arashiyama side.

Clean, friendly & helpful staff. Affordable yet classy, nice athmosphere, convenient location”

The place is really clean with fully equipped kitchen, the bed and room we got is generously spaced for a hostel - we felt so comfortable. With free shampoo and liquid soap. The free breakfast (boiled egg, bread, jam, margarine)is good & filling. The ambiance is homey & friendly. My family had a very nice experience and we would definitely stay there again if we have a chance to visit Kyoto. Highly recommendable. Our tip to visitors would be study the routes and transportation very well to avoid getting lost & wasting precious time. Re location pls take karasuma line and alight at Kujo station ( one station after kyoto) then exit at exit#3. When you exit at #3 turn right and approx 30 steps to the hostel.

Super new, clean and good”

Location, new, clean

The hotel is super new which is just 2 weeks old by the time I check in. Everything look nice and all design in the hotel are well thought. The environment of the hotel and feel is nice too. The bunk beds that we stayed are large as it's super single each bed. The other nights at another hotel, they just gave us a super single for a double room! The location of the hotel is good too as it's just 1 station away from Kyoto Station if you need to travel via Shinkansen. The Kujo station is just right below the hotel and actually it's just 5 minutes walk from the main Kyoto Station. There's also a 7 eleven beside the hotel which is convenient. The owner is a foreigner and speak good english. Overall is a very good stay although we just dropped by 1 night. Will definitely stay in this hotel again if we have the chance to visit Kyoto again.

The Most Aesthetically Pleasing Hostel I Ever Stayed At ”

I stay at TheLowerEastNine Hostel for about a week and I absolutely loved it. I love the cafe/bar and the common room. It is big spacious and clean like the rest of the hostel. I love the convenient location. I literally walked everywhere when I was in Kyoto. Kyoto station was 5 Minute away. That place already has a lot to do. And I found an awesome mall nearby too called AEON. I would stay here again if I get another chance. Even though its been more than 6 months since I stayed there, I still have very pleasant memory of my stay.

The hostel is right next to Kujo station exit 3 which is 1 stop away from Kyoto station. The hostel is also less than 5 min walk from Kyoto station. The place is so hip and instagramable and very peaceful as well. The staff are very accomodating as well. The only thing to note tho is that there is no elevator. So if you have heavy luggage ask help from the staff to ensure safety. Not a very big issue tho. The next time I go back to Kyoto, I will surely come here again.

Modern hostel with a great cafe”

The bathrooms were clean, modest but nice. Situated right next to the train station. The cafe is cozy and provides a good resting spot.

The hostel is located right next to a station, which is one south station from Kyoto Station. Walkable to Kyoto Station. The cafe was had warm interiors - very comfortable and cosy. They had a large common living room where you can meet other guests. The toilets and bathrooms were very clean. The beds are slightly bigger than a typical dorm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Perhaps the downside is the rooms are a tad small. But all in all a very comfortable hostel.

More than a Hostel!”

Very Clean, Good Location, Comfortable Room

The facilities are as good as hotel. Our room located at ground floor. The bathroom (with 3 separated shower rooms), despite being shared with others, they are all so clean. They also have pantry and common living room. The location is next to Kujo Metro station but a walking distance to Kyoto station. We like this hostel very much that we definitely will stay again when we got another change to visit Kyoto.

A Five Star Hostel ”

great quality facility, totally sweet staff, and wonderful location

i have stayed in around a dozen hostels across Tokyo, Hong kong and Taiwan, and LE9 is definitely the best one ever. The location is more than convenient (8 minutes walk from Kyoto main station, 30 seconds from a subway station, and 5 minutes walk from a terminal bus station.) The facilities in the hostel are all excellent, and you can see every item is selected with great taste. The bed is spacious and the shower/toilet are clean and shiny. The staff is more than welcoming to guests and they help me with any kind of questions or inconveniences i have during my stay. What's more, their reception room is also a cafe/bar, so i have enjoyed their nice coffee and bread in the morning, which totally lit up my day.

the hostel was 10mins walk from Kyoto Station, also If you choose to ride the subway, it's just one station away(Kujo Station) - Kujo Station is just next to the Hostel. Also love the comfortable lounge area. Hostel also has kitchen that you can use. Inclusive Breakfast served were Milk, Juice, boiled egg, toast bread and jam(no coffee- but you can buy at the cafe shop downstairs). Will book again If ever Ill be in Kyoto.

Lovely place to stay”

This hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood, just 10 mins walk away from Kyoto station and 1 min walk away from a subway station. This is a very stylish hostel where you can meet some nice people in the common area. The dorm is a little small though. Travellers with big suitcases may have a hard time packing/unpacking. The room, sheets and shower rooms are very clean. The english speaking staff are super friendly and helpful. The day I checked-in happened to be the hostel's first opening anniversary so i reveived a little gift from them. Overall this is a good place to stay. Highly recommend, especially for backpackers.

Great Hostel”

This Hostel was definitely one of the best hostels i’ve stayed. The staff is really helpfull and nice, they speak english too. Very clean rooms and common space, the baths are great, they give you a towel for you to use, slippers and extra blankets. The kitchen is very well equipped, there is breakfast every morning. Really quiet neighborhood and ambient. Will stay again when i go back to Kyoto. :) A.
