Ryokan Living Near Nijo Castle but Beware the Mosquitoes!”
This was my third time to Osaka in four years and second time staying near Nijo Castle. Bifuku Roujiya is located in a quiet neighborhood and is well-managed by staff that are located in a similar ryokan about 10 meters across the lane. There is also a covered arcade market about 100 meters away, making it easy to get food and buy groceries. The house itself is a bit old and you can see the traditional elements of yesteryears, which present a kind of charm. My only complaint was the relentless mosquitoes which gave me an itchiness I have never experienced before. Be sure to bring mozzie repellent (I went in September)! There are bikes available for rental by the owner (reasonably priced) and I would highly recommend this mode of travel in Kyoto. It's the best way of seeing the city at all hours, especially when the subway has closed. Would stay here again, perhaps with a larger group so that we can take up both floors and have house all to ourselves.

Traditional japanese hostel, perfect location”
Traditional japanese hostel with shared facilities, sleeping on the floor on futons. Location was perfect for us, a bit away from the action but still easy to reach everything. If you visit, go to Nr 5 on their location list for food. It is a hole in the wall Onomiyake/Tako jaki place. Pretty unique, no english spoken, all guests were very helpful to get the order. The downside of a traditional hostel is, that you can hear your neighbours. (Which wasn‘t a problem for us). You cannot lock the rooms, but japan is pretty safe, so we left most of our stuff there anyway. We stayed 5 nights. The last 3 days the cleaning of the facilities was somehow not done.

cool concept but not sound proof”
love the house and traditional setting of the room. the atmosphere was great but we were kinda disturbed by the noise made by the other occupants until around 2am. things became better around 2.30am when there was peace and it really felt like we were transported back in time. Good place to stay but got to be mindful of the other occupants.

Very nice place to stay. ”
It was very nice place to stay, quiet area and traditional room was very nice. House itself was quite hot during he day, but our room had AC unit so it was easily solved. Very close to market and station. Easy to travel to.

Definitely traditional. Actual room was just like photo BUT no security & minimal privacy between guests”
Location=great Authentic traditional vibe, quiet at night, scenic quaint old Kyoto & right around corner from shopping, cafes, restaurants, walking distance to tour sites (Nino Castle, shrines). Caveat: no security &minimal security between guests with sliding screen locks. Also front desk (different location) was intermittently manned. I would rebook in that neighborhood but not here.

Traditional old Japanese Home”
It is located very close to the local market and a few minutes walk to Nijo Station. The building is old with the shared shower-rooms and the shared toilets with very basic facilities. But, the rooms are quite spacious. For the first two nights of our stay, we could hear everything from the guest staying upstairs. While sleeping, we were frightened by the sound of his door closing and his footsteps. Overall, it is good to stay there to get experience with Japanese traditional Ryokan with good money value.

Great location”
The place is right by a local market, convenient store, and a train station. There are also several bus stops in the area. The staff are amazing and very friendly! The rooms here are spacious. However, there's no closet and hangers are limited. Rooms are not soundproof, but since we were out all day it didnt bother us much. One thing that I dislike was because the floor is laid with tatami, I got bed bug bites, pretty bad ones...

Great facility ”
Great traditional facility but only you have to rent towels . Overall is nice stay

Acceptable”
Disappointed. Choose this because it is 7mins to station. After paying high price for the accommodation, I had to pay an additional of JPY200 per person per night when I checked in. Accordingly to them, this is the new law implemented by Kyoto government. Can't validate. There are few rooms and we had to stay at the second level. You can just close the room but can't lock the room. There is no lock. No cupboard and only 2 hangers in the room. Fortunately, there is a 24hrs coin laundry that we could dry our washed laundry. Though the staff is nice, charged a reasonable price for washing the laundry, we will not go back to this anymore.

It's perfectly located”
This place is located really convenient, in my opinion, and has everything individual traveller needs (like kettle, plates, stove). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any towels and mattress was a bit far from been clean but everything else was pretty fine.

Very good”
Helpful staff. Location is ok. Nice kitchen. More slippers should be prepared if it is required to take off street shoes when entering the house. I don't think the sheets and washrooms are clean enough, especially when compared with other Japanese Airbnbs. Water from the tap sometimes warm sometimes cold.

Really cheap, but sleeping quality too low. If you get annoyed by others easily, don’t choose this place.

bathroom light”
This is a hidden hotel near the Nijo-Eki. We liked the traditional lodging style (shared kitchen and bathroom), but the bathroom light turns off automatically after 1 or 2 minutes. I think it helps if the lights stayed longer. Other than that, this was a great stay.

Great experience.”
The room and the rest of the facility was very nice and clean. The host was nice and recommended us a local annual festival which we loved. Note to other visitors - there's no possibility to lock the room (this isn't a negative point as we expected this)
