Great value and best service!”
The hotel owner is very kind and helpful. The location is convenient, and the room is very clean. I like the in-house onsen too, they will provide Yukata for you. The Ryokan will provide you all the information of the attractions nearby, like Snow Monkey Park or Shiga Kogen. Overall this is a great choice to stay in Yudanaka and they provide the best service. I totally enjoyed my stay.

Fantastic Ryokan”
If you want to stay in an authentic Ryokan this is a great option. It has its own private onsen you can use anytime. Its a 20min walk to the shiba onsen area where you can try another public onsen. Owner is friendly and helpful. We had a great time

Close to station”
From Kan's place to the shibu onsen takes about 20 minutes on foot. Just around 5-7 minutes way from Lawson and my favorite restaurant. Owner is good with english and very nice of offer giving us a ride to snow monkey park. I think owner should includes the bath's fee to the accommodation price.

A truly unique ryokan experience!”
I spent a night at Uotoshi Ryokan as a part of my hobby documenting unique ryokan hotels across Japan (IG ryokanmeguri) and was not disappointed. The owner was a skilled archery performer and patient teacher. Old facilities, but charming and rustic. Norwegian flags by the check-in counter was a pleasant sight for this Norwegian traveler (haha..). Seems like a nice place to stay for a week or two for remote work as well.

Enjoyable stay ”
A fine 2-night stay only 7-8 minutes walk from Yudanaka station. It is proper old style Japanese , a feel for older Japan, even down to the TV inside the room. The owner (male) did his best to make myself and wife welcome. Gave us lots of recommendations about local destinations. He was real friendly unfortunately his wife wasn't as engaging and turned her head away each time she walked past. I would still recommend going there and price is excellent for the area. It is only a 10 minute bus ride to where Monkey Kingdom is located. Breakfast was nice and enjoyed time in the baths.

Fab little find, we loved our stay”
we loved our stay at Uotoshi. This ryokan is super unique, nothing like anywhere else we stayed in Japan. On appearance it is fairly simple but the longer we stayed the more charm it exuded. The private onsen is perfect to warm you up if you are staying in winter but the beds were also incredibly warm and toasty. Our room was big and well supplied with tea and hot water and kimonos with an old world feel yet very clean and comfortable. The biggest highlight of Uotoshi though is the delightful owner Miyasaka-san. Such a kind and generous man, nothing was too much trouble, even driving us to the monkey park very early one morning. He also practices the art of archery and is happy to give a demonstration to those interested including dressing in his full formal regalia. His family history and knowledge is fascinating and his warmth and welcome is what makes the stay. If you're looking for super luxury this isn't the place for you but if you want a unique, interesting and homely experience then you'll love Uotoshi Ryokan.

An honest review ”
This is a lovely place to crash. The bath is decent (not Japanese hot) and yeah a bit run down but you can always get a multi Hot springs pass and go to the other hotels (think Yadari... Up the hill was good... Any ways forget). It reminds me of crashing at an old friend's place in Hiroshima. They were friendly, helped us get around, recommended a great place to get curry... By careful the regular is half the size of the large and the regular is HUDGE!! Place with a yellow sign. The main dude running place was sweet enough to show my brother and bow demonstration and drive us to the park. We got to shoot a bit. His English is very good. Ran into his sister at the entrance to the monkey park before the stairs in a gift store. She also helped us get about. It's a very relaxing atmosphere at a good price. If your used to hotels, room servous, first time at a Ryokan ... I look at other options. Basically if your used to stay in in hostels this would be a good one!

The Nice Ryokan”
The host is very nice. He speaks English very well and explain everything about his hometown and what you wanna know. Also, he drove us to the snow monkey park and advised how to walk safely on snow, that you should rent the snow boots in the shop at the entrance. This is the real traditional ryokan, you will wear kimono that he prepared for all guests and experience the hot spring onsen. Very good ryokan indeed!

Very friendly staff, delicious breakfast!”
The owner of the Ryokan speaks very good English, is very friendly and tells a lot of the city. He is very helpful, for example: He drives you to the snow monkey park with his car. He borrowed us some suitable shoes for walking in the icy mountains. Very interesting was the demonstration of traditional japanese archery. You can choose between japanese and western style breakfast. We took the japanese style and it was excellent. The toilets were outside of the rooms but that was ok. The Onsen were very recreative, you can visit them 24 hours. All and all an accommodation, which we visit again.

Charming ryokan”
The owner was very nice, he drove us to the Snow monkey area free of charge. Accommodations are quite ok for the price, place and room is clean. Wifi is very good. You'll be able to find the place when you ask the people in the information area at the yudanaka train station. They could answer you in English and give you easy directions to the place. Didn't try food in the place, but the owner will give restaurant suggestions along the area.

Value for money”
It's a nice hotel if you're into traditional Japanese lodging. Owner is a nice guy who speaks good English. He will go out of his way to help. He took us right to monkey park entrance with his car, hence saving us a hustle of bus riding on a very cold morning. No breakfast so we had to walk to an only 24/7 mart next to Yudanaka station to get food. Bathroom was very cold (it wouldn't cost much to keep it warm) and thus uncomfortable to use. Don't frown if the owner is not there when you arrive as he's probably giving a ride to someone. A few quintessential Japanese restaurants are close by so that was a plus. They all close early though. Lobby is decorated in a nice way with old Japanese artifacts.

Fanstastic Japanese Hostel”
Service was fantastic, the owner is very friendly and speaks english. He will happily give you advice on anything you want to know. The rooms are upstairs as well as separate male and female toilets. More toilets and separate male and female showers\onsen are downstairs. The showers\onsen are in one open room and not individual so there is no privacy. Free Internet is accessible in your room. There is also traditional Japanese archery in the afternoons so make sure you set aside time for that.

The Ryokan is old and need a refersh”
One very negative point for although, we have pets as well. It is defenitively not nice to be welcome with a strong smell at the entrance of the Ryokan !!! Yudanaka is for sure not the best place to stay in this area as the other small villages around are much nicer.

friendly attentive staff”
Very average Firstly it is listed as Nagano, but is 50 minutes from Nagano by train. The Ryokan is really run down, the shower was just a trickle, the hot tub was not clean. It was slippery and mossy and had things floating in the water. Toilets would not flush properly.

Amazing country-side experience”
Loved the place: beautiful and traditional. We visited the monkey park nearby (the owner drove us there for free from his own initiative!). We dance at a local festival, saw fireworks, walked down a beautiful river, etc. The owner was super welcoming and cared for us a lot. We felt really welcome and love the place, the location, and the experience.
