A place where you can feel the Japanese countryside and relaxation”
A place where you can feel the green forest, hot springs, and countryside vibes. You can take the No. 17 bus from Kyoto Station to the end of the line! The staff are very friendly and both dinner and breakfast were delicious :) Although I checked in late and checked out quickly, so I couldn't look around much, I would like to visit again next time :)

Quiet and nice accommodation”
Both dinner and breakfast have a lot of food and are delicious! It's a good idea to stay here and sleep if you come to Ohara. The staff are also friendly. It was nice to have a shuttle to the bus stop! The hot springs were a bit small, but it was nice because we were the only ones there at the time.

Very clean accommodation”
I was worried that the ryokan might be damp or old since it was my first time staying in one, but the interior was really clean. It seems like they remodeled it. Everything from the tatami mats, walls, sliding doors, etc. was new. The hot spring bath was great because you could alternate between hot and cold water in the outdoor bath. I requested pork for dinner, but because Agoda didn't relay the message properly, chicken came out instead. If you speak Japanese well, it's better to request it directly from the ryokan. If you want to stay at a ryokan at least once, it's worth a visit.

Exceptional”
The workers r so kind! Even we arrived later than official dinner time, they prepared the meal for only us. So we thanked to them. The onsen was also awesome and we did happy time. I could feel that they try to care us so well. Come here and enjoy here. And I recommend that u arrive ryokan before dinner time. Cuz the village gonna be so dark at night so it is little bit scary to walk to ryokan

Really nice place to recharge from city life!”
Had a very memorable stay with my family of 5. Great food and excellent service levels! Strongly recommend staying here to take a break from hectic work-life, and recharge in this quaint little ryokan. But no-no if you are planning to explore Kyoto city or the more touristy spots, unless you rent a vehicle. The public transport route to the city can take an hour or so. Taxis between the city area and the ryokan would probably cost around 60k to 70k yen each way.

Great choice for outdoor hot springs lovers”
Experience traditional Japanese hot spring inn in the countryside away from the city. Enjoy delicious local breakfast and dinner. The staff provides excellent and friendly service. When I lost something in my room, they quickly helped me by sending it to my hotel in Kyoto city. Thank you very much.

Excellent springs, but caution on rooms”
Only two cons to this location: shared bathrooms only and uncomfortable beds. Obviously the shared bathroom can be an issue for families with small children. I wish this was mentioned on their Agoda listing. Beds are also very hard from other Japanese style bedding I've used in the past. Otherwise, there are some very good pros: excellent hot springs, outstanding food. Recommended, but with caveats.

Looking for value for money, then definitely not this one.. ”
I loved Ohara's atmosphere, and that was the reason we rented a car to travel from Kyoto Ohara to Nara. 1hour away from Kyoto, and tucked inside Mountain, that was good. However this ryocan is really disappointing I should say. Its stairs were extremely steep and even narrow but none of staffs helped to move up the luggage! Room were very small and self service of making your own futon is required. They even did not put covers on mattresses and pillows, so we should've done everything by ourselves. Food was a bit salty for us and was not impressive either. It was busy season so price was quite higher than other slow seasons, and so many foreign tourists were there. Funny thing is they separate dining area by foreigners and Japanese, and all foreigners were seated on the floor and Japanese were on chairs. Have you imagined how hard it is to fold or do whatever with legs on floor? Some old couples next to us were struggling with their legs moving side to up and down almost every 5 mins.

Very traditional but a bit restricted”
The Yumoto Onsen is located in a beautiful mountain valley with nearby running streams, next to a very picturesque old temple. The facilities are quiet and well maintained, but a little too modernized for the location (e.g., they have small TV sets in every room, but it detracts from the nature around you). The experience staying at this onsen was a traditional one, but perhaps not the best for a young couple. The food was great, the staff were friendly, and the facilities were clean, but the baths were just small tiled pools next to the bath rooms, and they were entirety gender separated. If you're dreaming of a quiet bath to soak in at a remote village, this is a good choice. But if you're hoping to share a more nature-centered hot spring or private bath with a spouse, look elsewhere.

quiet location for relaxation”
We had a great time staying at Yumoto Onsen Oharasansou. The place is quiet, clean, and the price is including breakfast and dinner which is a plus. We enjoyed our three nights stay there. We would like to do some serious hiking, but there's no map, except one at the bus station. The surrounding area at the hotel is not well mark on the trail. One can easily get lost. So we didn't go any further.

quiet and relaxing”
It isn't very conveniently located I should say. I had a car rented so it wasn't a big deal though. However, it was definately value for money with the nicely presented dinner and breakfast and the lovely outdoor onsen. Everything was pleasant while staying at the Yumoto onsen Oharasansou and I and my family are all looking forward to visiting again.

It was nice experience to me!”
I traveled to kyoto when cherry blossom was fully bloomed, So Ohara had very nice views itself. yumoto has really nice views around it. when to get into onsen, you can see beautiful and peaceful views of mountain. staffs there were kind and nice. I went there late because I had to solve some problems in airport, So I arrived late. the staffs might be worried and confused but greeted me kindly. I reserves the room for 4. It has sufficient supplies like towers, tea, shower supplies, toothbrushes etc. the room was very clean and blankets also were clean. the temple named jakkoin nearby was good to look around, and sanzenin too. personally I liked peaceful feeling of ohara.

Relaxing Getaway”
Our family of our stayed at the Yumoto Onsen while touring Japan for the first time. Incredible scenery and very professional onsen. We wanted to experience Japanese style living and we got it. We had to wear slippers throughout the hotel, slept on futons, sat on the floor and had Japanese style dinner, experience a community hot springs which was done very professionally and upscale. Very secluded, not a lot of people there so very private. It was a perfect way to spend a day. They rent bikes for local touring. We took a taxi to Kurama -dira for their hiking trail to many temples. Although we didn't care too much about seeing 10 more temples or shrines, the hike was incredible. It is so worth it! We could have stayed in Kurama but this onsen was $200 cheaper and more private.

Great retreat, traditional and beautiful location”
This traditional Onsen was amazing. It is a little out of the way but is so worth the trip out of Kyoto. Catch the Tan coloured bus No. 17 from Kyoto bus terminal to Ohara terminal (last stop). It cost 600yen. Speak to the lovely lady at Ohara bus terminal for a map to the location as you will need to walk about 10min. The area is amazing in the mountains and there are plenty of walking tracks around the area. The Onsen staff were extremely helpful explaining to a foreigner the traditions. I felt very liberated visiting the spa as they are segregated female and male traditional onsen bathing areas. Hot springs are located in each. Definitely will return for another visit and hopefully longer than one night as the area is worth exploring. My stay had dinner and breakfast included which were both traditional meals. Highly recommend trying this Onsen to anyone wanting to go traditional.

relaxing place and good scenery”
the host and staff are very kind, thanks for picking us at very late time! This is the second time I stay in this hotel, I like the environment very much especially the onsen. If you want to find a place that away from the noise and trouble of the life, here is for you! Although you can get to the bus stop by the hotel's car, I recommend you to try at least once walking to there to enjoying the Japan style village scenery along the way . The only thing you need to think when choose this hotel is the traffic convenience, it will take at least 30mins (bus) to any famous places in Kyoto. By the way, there are also some beautiful places near ohara, such as Sanzenin Temple。

Our stay at the Yumoto Onsen Oharasansou was wonderful. It was the ultimate japanese experience. The country trip was beautiful and the views were breathtaking. It was the best traditional onsen experience we had.
